Opportunity Description

Could it be you? Apply to lead South Telford’s Neighbourhood Board and drive £30 million investment

Telford & Wrekin Council is looking for passionate, community‑minded people to help drive positive change across South Telford. If you care about creating cleaner, safer and greener neighbourhoods, and you want to help shape the future of your local area, we’d love to hear from you.

This voluntary leadership role, with an allowance for attending Board meetings, will play a central part in shaping long‑term regeneration, strengthening communities, improving local facilities and giving residents a stronger voice in decisions about their neighbourhood.

About the role

As the Chair of the Pride in Place board, you’ll act as the voice of your neighbourhood, helping the council understand local priorities and supporting initiatives that make a real difference.

The Chair will:

Lead and chair Board meetings

Ensure residents’ voices are at the heart of all decisions

Work with partners to co‑design the 10‑year Pride in Place Plan

Oversee early projects that deliver visible improvements

Help establish long‑term arrangements for community leadership and funding

This role is perfect for someone who wants to give back, influence change, and be part of a more connected, empowered community.

What you’ll gain

Being a Community Representative is a rewarding opportunity to:

Influence how your local area develops

Build skills in communication, leadership and community engagement

Work with supportive council teams and partners

Meet new people and strengthen local connections

Play a key part in supporting a cleaner, greener, more vibrant South Telford.

Woodside was selected as one of the first areas in the UK to take part in the Government’s Pride in Place programme - a national initiative focused on strengthening communities, improving public spaces and giving residents a greater say in shaping their future.

The investment was made possible through joint work between the Council and Telford MP Shaun Davies, alongside the local community. Chancellor Rachel Reeves and Communities Secretary Steve Reed MP unveiled the plan when they visited Woodside in September 2025.

How to apply: We welcome Expressions of Interest from people of all backgrounds and experiences. To arrange an informal discussion or submit a short Expression of Interest (up to 600 words), outlining why you’re interested in the role and the skills or experience you can bring, to [email protected].

The deadline for submissions is 12 noon on Monday 16 February.

Shortlisting takes place the following week and interviews in the week of 23 February.
